ALTERED AMERICA

This story takes place in a present day America that has a slightly different history than the one we know. That different history makes Altered America a place where the King of England uses a smaller version of the White House as his summer palace in America (the American president resides in St. Louis and does the people's work from the St. Louis  Arch). The King comes here to live now, while he is in a separation from his wife, the Queen. He travels with his seven piece marching band, led by Kemba, a tall African, who is also his driver and serves unofficially as his bodyguard.

The King meets Star Spangle, a young native American teacher's assistant at a day school. Her best friend and mentor, is a teacher at the school; Magda,15 years her senior.  Magda has pretensions to occult skills of gypsy magic. Though they frequently butt heads (like a mother and daughter), Magda and Star Spangle are devoted and loving friends.
